European Commission Departments (Directorates Generale)
The European Commission is the main legislative generator and carries out the objectives agreed by the Member governments when they sign a Treaty. The Commission is divided up into directorates general (commonly known as DGs) and each DG deals with a specific policy area. The DGs are headed by a Commissioner and there are 25 Commissioners in total.
