The European Law Monitor – Europe Direct Relay for Hampshire is part of a new UK network of EU drop-in centres, which is in itself part of the wider European network of over 400 Europe Direct relays. It is located at the European Law Monitor offices in Eastleigh Business Centre in the middle of Eastleigh.

The new Europe Direct Relays are intended to form one of the primary sources of information for the public and business community on EU policies and legislation, and form part of a new European Union strategy intending to close the information gap between the EU and its public.

The mission of the Europe Direct network is to:

• enable the local public to obtain information, advice, assistance and answers to questions about the European Union’s institutions, legislation, policies, programmes and funding opportunities
• actively promote local and regional debate about the European Union and its policies
• allow the European institutions to improve the dissemination of information tailored to local and regional needs
• give the public the opportunity to send feedback to the European Union institutions in the form of questions, opinions and suggestions.

As this is already one of the main tasks of European Law Monitor on a national level, hosting the Europe Direct Relay Hampshire makes perfect sense.

European Law Monitor - Europe Direct deliver a range of topical information events for Hampshire, providing advice and information on the EU to local citizens, businesses, schools, colleges and other organisations, and attempting to garner feedback on an EU matters and legislation.

Although we receive a small amount of funding from the Euopean Commission, hosting the Europe Direct Relay for Hampshire will not change European Law Monitor's non-political stance on European Affairs.

Our position has always been, and will always be, that we are non-political information providers, and our role is to inform individuals and organisation about EU policies and legislation in order that they can make representations to the various EU institutions at the appropriate time.

We will continue to be impartial observers of the EU and its activities, and will not be simply disseminating "EU propaganda"!
