Green Week Expo: an innovative walk in the
park to highlight the latest eco-technologies
From 3 to 15 June Green Week Expo will present the
cutting edge of eco-friendly technology at Parc du Cinquantenaire, Brussels.
Linked to Green Week, the European Commission's annual conference and exhibition
dedicated to the environment taking place from 12 to 15 June, the exhibition
highlights technological innovation in environmental protection. Beginning on
the day of the Brussels Region's annual ''Fête de l'Environnement'', 3
June, Green Week Expo is open to the public.
Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas said: ''Eco-technologies are vital to
solving the major environmental, economic and social challenges the world is
facing, such as climate change, the loss of biodiversity and unsustainable
production and consumption patterns. Green Week Expo will be one of the largest
exhibitions of eco-friendly technology in Brussels. It will spur innovation by
providing technological leaders with a showcase for their products, while giving
the public a fascinating look at the solutions of the future."
Green Week Expo brings under the same tent companies from a range of
industries to demonstrate their technologies for addressing environmental
challenges. Exhibitors include automotive, energy and packaging companies that
will show recent technological developments on hybrid cars, energy efficiency
and recycling processes.
A Formula One race car will be on display as part of a campaign to encourage
people to make personal environmental pledges and to donate to charities working
to protect the environment. The European Commission's Directorate-General for
Environment, which is organising Green Week and the Expo, will have a stand
highlighting its Environmental Technologies Action Plan.
Several side events and workshops will take place during the exhibition,
including a presentation on carbon capture and storage, a promising technology
to prevent industrial carbon dioxide emissions from reaching the atmosphere, and
a demonstration of how beverage cartons are recycled into paper.
Green Week Expo will be opened by Pia Bucella, Director in the Commission's
Directorate General for Environment, at 10:30 on Sunday 3 June. The exhibition
will be open on 3 June from 10:00 to 18:30, on 4-8 June from 11:00 to 18:30 and
on 11-15 June from 9:30 to 18:30.
